Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has partnered with Chennai-based startup The ePlane Company to develop sustainable electric aviation solutions. The collaboration focuses on creating compact eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft to address challenges in urban mobility, such as traffic congestion, inefficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Focus on eVTOL Aircraft and Urban Mobility
The ePlane Company, incubated at IIT Madras, specializes in designing compact eVTOL aircraft for passenger and cargo transport. TCS brings expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics to co-develop scalable electric aviation solutions. These efforts are aimed at reshaping urban mobility while promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
Emphasis on Sustainability and Ecosystem Development
As part of the collaboration, the companies will work on building a “Keiretsu-like” supplier-buyer network to ensure the long-term viability of the electric aviation ecosystem. This framework, inspired by Japanese business networks, will integrate renewable energy sources and enhance supply chain efficiency.
Strategic Initiatives and Proof-of-Concept Projects
The partnership includes plans to co-develop solutions for TCS’ clients, conduct product demonstrations, and participate in innovation events such as TCS PacePorts. Both companies will also work on proof-of-concept projects to accelerate the adoption of eVTOL aircraft in urban areas.
Background of The ePlane Company
Founded in 2019 and incubated at IIT Madras, The ePlane Company focuses on eVTOL technology for passenger and cargo transport. Last year, the startup raised $14 million in funding to expand its operations and technology.
This collaboration signals growing interest in leveraging electric aviation technology to meet urban transportation needs, highlighting the potential of eVTOL aircraft in revolutionizing how people and goods move across cities.
