Mumbai: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WISE (SNDT Women’s University Incubation Centre) under its ‘HP Udgam’ Startup Initiative to foster innovation and support women-led startups.
What is the HP Udgam Startup Initiative?
Udgam is a program designed to empower innovators and entrepreneurs in India by providing the necessary support to develop, validate, and commercialize their ideas. HPCL aims to facilitate the transition from proof of concept (POC) to full-scale implementation, ensuring that promising innovations reach the market successfully.
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the startup ecosystem by offering support to women entrepreneurs in Maharashtra and beyond. WISE at SNDT Women’s University is actively involved in startup empowerment programs, including:
-
Seed funding opportunities (in collaboration with Maharashtra State Innovation Society, SIDBI, Startup India Seed Fund)
-
Women entrepreneur programs (in association with Marwadi Catalysts)
-
Hackathons and Ideathons (such as Ideathon 3.0)
HPCL believes this initiative will accelerate innovation and empower women entrepreneurs, contributing to the broader goal of making India a global startup hub.
About HPCL
HPCL, one of India’s largest integrated Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), is engaged in refining crude oil and marketing petroleum products such as diesel, petrol, LPG, lubricants, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). The company operates two major refineries in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam and has a nationwide business presence spanning retail, LPG, industrial fuels, aviation, and commercial fuel supplies.
With this collaboration, HPCL aims to leverage its industry expertise to nurture innovation and support women-led startups, paving the way for economic growth and entrepreneurial success across the country.
APAC News Analysis:
This initiative reflects a larger trend of industry-academia partnerships that aim to harness untapped potential in the startup ecosystem. By specifically targeting women entrepreneurs, HPCL and WISE are addressing the gender gap in the startup space, ensuring better access to capital, mentorship, and business opportunities for women-led businesses. Such collaborations not only drive technological and economic progress but also align with the broader goals of inclusive development and gender diversity in India’s innovation landscape.
