Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has officially promoted IAS officer R. Meenakshi Sundaram to the rank of Principal Secretary, putting an end to speculation regarding his elevation. His promotion had been under discussion for some time, and the latest government order has confirmed the decision.
Meenakshi Sundaram, a 2001-batch IAS officer, was granted a few months of relaxation in the required service period for this promotion. Generally, officers need to complete 25 years of service to be eligible for the Principal Secretary rank. He was set to reach this milestone in January 2026, but the Uttarakhand government decided to advance his promotion.
Currently, Meenakshi Sundaram serves as Secretary in the Housing and Energy departments. His promotion is expected to further strengthen governance and administrative leadership in the state, ensuring more efficient policy execution and decision-making in critical sectors.
Granting service relaxations for promotions is a common administrative practice. With this appointment, Uttarakhand now has three officers at the Principal Secretary level. The most senior among them is R.K. Sudhanshu, followed by L. Fanai, with Meenakshi Sundaram now joining their ranks.
