Kolkata: The West Bengal government is soon bringing in the Where is my Bus app across the state. The app is to be launched in April and in the first phase bus drivers across Salt Lake, Garia, Madhyamgram and Dum Dum will be trained on its functioning.
The driver needs to scan a QR code through the app before he starts driving. Subsequently all detailed information about the bus will go to the IT division of the state transport department.
The IT division will upload all the information on the app which all subscribing passengers will be able to track realtime. So even from home, passengers will be able to track the arrivals of buses in their respective routes.
In addition, the Transport Department will set up digital display boards in important junctions across the city in conjunction with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. These boards will carry all information like when buses are coming and the timing of the buses on a particular route.
All government and private buses as well as minibuses will come under the ambit of this app. The government, accordingly, will be providing smartphones to all the bus owners for the usage of the drivers. Government is also providing the relevant training for all the drivers.
An advertisement agency is partnering the State Transport Department for this project. It will be funding all the smartphones for the drivers and in exchange the agency will be allowed to advertise in the buses.
