New Delhi: The Central Government has assigned IAS Devesh the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).
Chaturvedi, who currently serves as Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, will hold this position until a regular appointment is made or until further orders.
The decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, as per an official notification.
A senior officer of the 1989 Uttar Pradesh cadre, Chaturvedi brings extensive experience in agricultural policy and governance.
He holds an M.Tech in Industrial Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bengaluru, and a PhD in Performance Management in Government from IIT Delhi.
In his additional role at DARE, Chaturvedi is expected to strengthen coordination between agricultural research and policy implementation, fostering innovation and sustainable growth in India’s agricultural sector.
As Secretary, he will advise the government on policy matters related to agricultural research and education. He will also oversee the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) as its Director General, the apex body for agricultural research, education, and development.
The post became vacant following the departure of Dr. Himanshu Pathak, who took over as Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad—a globally significant agricultural research institution founded by M.S. Swaminathan in 1972.
