New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is upgrading its Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) to provide real-time updates across key stations and trains. The project includes installing 110 upgraded display units at 18 stations along the Yellow Line.
Display Upgrades for Better Commuter Experience
According to DMRC, the new display units will offer real-time train arrival and departure updates while adjusting brightness based on ambient light conditions. These screens will display a mix of static and dynamic content, including messages, images, and videos, to assist commuters.
The installation of PIDS is planned at critical points in each station, concourses for entry updates, platforms for train schedules, and entry/exit points for navigation and scheduling assistance.
Expansion to Other Metro Lines
DMRC has already upgraded 44 display units at seven stations on the Heritage Line (Kashmere Gate to Janpath). The ongoing upgrade on the Yellow Line from GTB Nagar to Qutub Minar will include 72 double-sided displays on platforms and 38 single-sided displays in concourse areas.
Earlier, DMRC introduced bilingual train arrival displays in Phase-II and LED-based display systems in Phase-III. The latest Phase-IV expansion will feature fully LED-based PIDS, supporting information display in Hindi, English, and regional languages.
In-Train Information Systems Also Upgraded
Apart from station upgrades, DMRC is modernizing in-train passenger information boards (PIBs). The old LED screens and static route maps are being replaced with LCD-based systems offering real-time station updates, door opening directions, a digital clock, and audio-enabled announcements.
These upgrades are being implemented across 70 trains on Line 1, Line 3, and Line 4 as part of a phased rollout. DMRC officials stated that the number of PIDS units per station will depend on the station’s size and design.
