Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh has signed an agreement with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) to develop up to seven gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects. The Rs 49,000 crore investment will support the state’s push for clean energy under its Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy.
Agreement Details
TPREL, a subsidiary of Tata Power, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government in Amaravati.
The projects will include solar, wind and hybrid power, with or without storage solutions. The investment is part of the state’s broader plan to attract Rs 10 lakh crore in renewable energy projects and achieve over 160 GW of capacity.
State’s Role and Infrastructure Support
The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) will assist in identifying suitable sites and providing evacuation infrastructure for these projects.
TPREL will conduct feasibility studies before moving forward with project development.
Economic and Policy Impact
The investment is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy sector, create local jobs and contribute to skill development. The projects align with the state’s long-term clean energy strategy, which aims to boost economic growth while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
This deal is among the largest renewable energy investments in Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the state’s increasing focus on sustainability and infrastructure development in the sector.
The success of these projects will depend on regulatory approvals, land acquisition, and grid infrastructure readiness. If implemented effectively, the investment could position Andhra Pradesh as a key player in India’s renewable energy transition.
