New Delhi: In a significant move to combat Delhi’s long-standing waterlogging problem during the monsoon season, the Delhi government has introduced a new sewer-cleaning technology—the ‘Recycler Machine.’ This advanced machine, imported from Mumbai, eliminates the need for manual sewer cleaning and is designed to speed up operations in the city’s congested areas.
Successful Trial Conducted in Greater Kailash
The machine underwent its first successful trial on Sunday in Greater Kailash, overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma. The trial showcased the machine’s ability to extract silt and dirty water from sewer lines, treat the extracted water on-site, and reuse the treated water for further cleaning operations.
Integrated Technology for Efficient Cleaning
Unlike conventional super sucker machines that require separate water tankers, the Recycler Machine functions as a compact, integrated unit. Its innovative design allows for effective cleaning without the need for an additional water supply, making it particularly useful in densely populated urban areas.
City-Wide Deployment Before Monsoon
Highlighting the poor condition of Delhi’s sewer system — many of which have not been cleaned for decades — officials revealed that the Recycler Machine will soon be deployed across all assembly constituencies in a phased manner.
Post-Cleaning Inspections with CCTV
To ensure the effectiveness of the cleaning operations, post-cleaning inspections using CCTV technology will be conducted. The Delhi government aims to complete the deployment of these machines across the city before the upcoming monsoon season, hoping to replicate the success seen in Mumbai and parts of Gujarat.
