Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his 50th visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, launched and laid the foundation stone for 44 projects collectively worth Rs 3,880 crore on 10 April.
The projects span critical sectors, including power infrastructure, education, transportation and rural development.
Power Infrastructure Gets a Boost
Of the 44 initiatives, 25 new projects worth Rs 2,250 crore are focused on strengthening Varanasi’s power infrastructure. These include plans to set up 15 new substations, install transformers, and lay 1,500 km of new electricity lines. A 220 kV substation is also planned near Chaukaghat, aimed at supporting uninterrupted power supply in the city.
Education and Rural Projects in Focus
PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for several rural and education-focused facilities. These include 100 new Anganwadi centres, 130 drinking water projects, 356 libraries, a government degree college, and a polytechnic institute in Pindra. School renovation work is also part of the newly announced plans.
Road Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure
Key urban mobility projects were flagged off, including the foundation of three flyovers and several road-widening initiatives. Two stadiums — one in Shivpur and another in UP College are also part of the developmental agenda.
Beautification works around Shastri Ghat and Samne Ghat, along with infrastructure improvements by the Varanasi Development Authority and Indian Railways, were inaugurated. A transit hostel at Police Lines and police barracks in Ramnagar were also opened.
