Agartala: Tripura is constructing its first G+14 high-rise government building at Gurkhabasti in Agartala. Expected to be fully operational by December 2026, this building integrates earthquake-resistant technology and green building standards.
The Rs 133.89 crore project is being implemented by the state PWD department and executed by Engineering Projects (India). Since the foundation stone was laid in January 2023, the project is running as per the deadline till now.
The building incorporated a pendulum-based base isolator, which can withstand earthquakes up to a magnitude of 8.8. Manufactured by Earthquake Protection System (EPS) of California this isolator reduces seismic forced by allowing controlled movement during earthquakes.
While the base isolator was designed in the US, IIT Mumbai played a crucial role in implementation. Currently, both the foundation work and installation of seismic isolators have been completed. It has also received a four-star rating for green building safety.
The G+14 building will consolidate all Tripura government directorate offices into a single location. This will streamline the delivery of citizen services and minimize public travel.
Tripura falls under seismic zone five and is prone to earthquakes of severe magnitude like the recent one in Myanmar.
