The revised rates will come into effect from Saturday, the notifications said.
“The Union Government’s public sector oil companies have increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre each. This is unacceptable. When international crude oil prices fall, oil companies do not proportionately reduce fuel prices for the public but instead retain the profits. Increasing petroleum prices immediately after the Assembly elections in five states is unjustified,” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay said.
The government periodically revises windfall taxes and export duties on petroleum products in line with global crude oil prices and refining margins.
