Ahmedabad, May 18 (APAC Media): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the Innovation & Incubation Centre (IIC) at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi and several other dignitaries also attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said NID plays an important role in connecting creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. He said design is not just a discipline but also an art that helps present ideas and products in a refined and meaningful manner.
According to Shah, fields such as music, songwriting and design should not only be viewed as art forms but also as viable professions. He said NID was set up in Gujarat to explore the commercial and professional potential of design and creativity.
The Union Home Minister further stressed the need to strengthen the design ecosystem in India and said the newly inaugurated Innovation & Incubation Centre would help young designers connect their creativity with professional and business opportunities.
He noted that while designers excel in innovation and creativity, they often require support in commercialization and entrepreneurship.
“Design plays an important role across every sector, including large infrastructure and industrial projects. India already possesses rich traditional design knowledge and craftsmanship, and there is a need to recognise, modernise and expand this strength into advanced sectors such as semiconductors and chip design.”, the Union Minister added.
Greater awareness and career opportunities in the field of design are necessary to further expand the sector in the country.
