New Delhi: In a major step to strengthen medical education and healthcare infrastructure in India, Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved the establishment of 10 new ESIC medical colleges.
New Colleges Across Key States
The newly sanctioned medical colleges will be set up in Andheri (Maharashtra), Basaidarapur (Delhi), Ludhiana (Punjab), Naroda-Bapunagar (Gujarat), Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Guwahati-Beltola (Assam), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ranchi (Jharkhand). These locations have been strategically chosen to bridge the healthcare access gap in underserved and semi-urban regions.
Empowering India’s Workforce Through Education
Speaking after the 194th meeting of the ESI Corporation, Minister Mandaviya emphasised that the expansion of medical colleges will not only enhance healthcare services but also increase the number of government medical education seats. This aligns with the government’s vision to empower India’s workforce by strengthening the ESIC network.
More Colleges Under Review
In addition to the approved institutions, ten other cities are under active consideration for future ESIC medical colleges. These include Pune and Nagpur in Maharashtra, Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Asansol (West Bengal), Pandunagar (Uttar Pradesh), Manesar (Haryana), Kollam (Kerala), Surat (Gujarat), Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Margaon (Goa).
This expansion highlights ESIC’s growing role in delivering quality healthcare and education across India.
