Ranchi: Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), a Coal India subsidiary, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, to strengthen collaboration in unconventional hydrocarbon resource development for the advancement of the energy sector.Â
The MoU, signed in the presence of Dr Pallavi Jain Govil, Director General, DGH, and Manoj Kumar, CMD, CMPDI, aims to facilitate data sharing and technology transfer.
The collaboration focuses on resources such as coal bed methane (CBM), shale gas, and other unconventional energy sources critical to India’s energy security. Key officials, including Sachiv Kumar, ADG (Development); Shankar Nagachari, Director (T/CRD); Ajay Kumar, Director (T/P&D and T/RD&T); and Sanjay Kumar Dubey, GM (TS/PR), along with representatives from ONGC, IOCL, CBM operators and academic institutions, attended the event.
Following the signing of the MoU, a stakeholder meeting emphasised enhanced cooperation between government, industry, and academia to accelerate CBM and unconventional resource exploration and development in India.
The initiative aims to create a robust technical and knowledge-sharing ecosystem for energy innovation.
