Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has launched the Online Building Permission System (OBPS) digital platform targeted to enhance efficiency, transparency, accessibility and ease the process of obtaining building construction permits across the state.
OBPS is a collaboration between the Town and Country Planning Organisation (TCPO) under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Directorate of Town Planning, Department of Urban Affairs. NIC Shillong provided the technical support.
The new system marks a shift to an online-only permit for all construction, be it public, private, government or business.
The Directorate of Town Planning will migrate its website from a static to a dynamic platform. The new website will be interactive, more user-friendly and capable of handling large volumes of data and transactions, including online payments.
The system will deregulate the process of obtaining building permits. This will lead to a cut down on the time required for obtaining building permits.
All applications for building permits must now be submitted online. Architects and other professionals are required to register on the portal.
Over time, OBPS will be handed over to urban local bodies for implementation.
It will be handed over to deputy commissioners who are leading local planning authorities in districts where ULBs are yet to be formed.
