New Delhi:Â Bharti Airtel has introduced a sovereign, telecom-grade cloud platform under its subsidiary Xtelify, marking a strategic shift to offer cloud services tailored for telecom operators. The platform, branded as Airtel Cloud, will operate on a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) model and be hosted entirely in India to comply with data sovereignty norms.
Aimed at reducing cloud infrastructure costs for telecom firms, Airtel Cloud combines AI-based tools with cloud hosting capabilities. Xtelify’s software suite, comprising Xtelify Data Engine, Work, IQ, and Serve offers telecom-specific features such as workflow automation, customer journey management, and fraud prevention. Airtel claims its bundled solution can lower operational costs by up to 40% compared to deploying separate cloud and network setups.
Initial customers include Singtel (Singapore), Airtel Africa, and Globe Telecom (Philippines). The company said its services would help streamline operations, boost productivity, and improve governance for partner telcos. Control and data governance will remain within India through next-generation local data centres.
The launch comes as Airtel looks to expand its enterprise offerings, which contributed 11% to overall revenue in Q4 FY25. This also follows a planned Rs 6,000 crore investment over the next four years to scale up data centre capacity through its Nxtra unit.
The move positions Airtel to compete with global cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft, and Google, while rival Reliance Jio continues developing its AI-based ‘Jio Brain’ initiative to offer similar services across its network ecosystem.
