Noida: The plan to connect the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar with the Ganga Expressway has moved into an advanced stage, with the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) close to finalising the alignment for a 74-km greenfield link corridor.
The project is expected to significantly enhance high-speed connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh by integrating two of the state’s largest infrastructure networks.
Officials said the link expressway will begin at the 44.3-km point on the Ganga Expressway near Syana in Bulandshahr and merge with the Yamuna Expressway at the 24.8-km mark, close to the planned Film City in YEIDA’s Sector 21. Once operational, the route will allow seamless access to the Jewar airport from Meerut, Bulandshahr, Khurja and Syana, while also improving travel towards Agra, Greater Noida and the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway.
UPEIDA additional CEO S.P. Shahi, met YEIDA officials on Thursday to assess a 20-km stretch of the proposed corridor falling under YEIDA’s jurisdiction. The review focused on ensuring that the alignment avoids internal sector roads and aligns with the existing master plan. Multiple alternatives, including fully and partially elevated sections, were examined to minimise disruption while providing efficient connectivity.
The 120-metre-wide corridor is estimated to cost around Rs 4,000 crore and will require land acquisition across 56 villages, including eight in Gautam Budh Nagar and 48 in Bulandshahr district, covering Khurja, Syana and Shikarpur. A 130-metre-wide road already earmarked in YEIDA’s master plan may be redesignated for the new expressway.
Authorities are also finalising the location of underpasses, U-turns and elevated stretches to maintain internal connectivity within YEIDA sectors.
Meanwhile, to prevent speculative land transactions along the proposed alignment, UPEIDA has imposed a complete ban on the sale and purchase of notified land. The Noida administration has also halted all related transactions until further orders.
The new corridor will directly feed into YEIDA’s industrial sectors 28, 29, 32 and 33, boosting cargo movement around the airport. Officials added that the project will serve as a crucial element of the airport’s multimodal connectivity plan, which also includes planned rail links and rapid transit corridors.
