Mumbai: The University of Western Australia (UWA) has signed an agreement with IIM Mumbai and IIT/ISM Dhanbad to open new opportunities in the mining sector, with a strong focus on logistics and sustainability.
UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Amit Chakma said the collaboration aims to support India’s clean energy transition and strengthen supply chain resilience while helping build a future-ready minerals workforce.
Micro-Credential Courses to Lead the Initiative
As part of the partnership, UWA will introduce about ten micro-credential online courses in the initial phase. These will later be supplemented with additional programs jointly developed to meet the industry’s evolving needs. The courses are intended to bring global best practices in mining, automation, logistics, geosciences, and sustainability to Indian learners.
The university noted that the partnerships will create long-term pathways for joint research, executive education, and industry-focused collaboration.
UWA to Open Campuses in Mumbai and Chennai
UWA is expanding its footprint in India by setting up new campuses in Mumbai and Chennai. These campuses are expected to open in mid-2026. The Mumbai campus will focus on business and IT programs, while the Chennai campus will concentrate on technology and IT-related fields.
UWA is also establishing collaborative centres with Telangana University in Visakhapatnam and is working with Centurion University in Bhubaneswar to offer micro-credential courses aimed at reducing skill gaps in the mining sector.
Sports Immersion Program to Elevate India’s Sports Science Ecosystem
Alongside its academic initiatives, UWA will introduce a nationwide Sports Immersion Program. The program will be supported by a state-of-the-art Sports Science Hub at UWA’s upcoming Chennai campus.
Developed in partnership with Avid Sports and the Chennai Bulls, the initiative will bring Australia’s high-performance sports science expertise to Indian athletes, coaches, and sports institutions. It will offer immersion experiences, analytics training, biomechanics insights, and integrated academic pathways designed to help modernise India’s sports ecosystem.
The program has already gained interest from major sports organisations looking to adopt scientific training models at both elite and grassroots levels.
