New Delhi: The government notified the National Frequency Allocation Plan 2025 (NFAP-2025) on 30 Decemberpaving the way for a significant boost to India’s mid-band spectrum resources for next-generation mobile networks.
Under the revised plan, the 6425-7125 MHz band has been earmarked for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), supporting the rollout of 5G, 5G Advanced and future 6G services.
Issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications, the NFAP-2025 will come into effect from 30 December.
The document outlines the framework for managing and allocating radio-frequency spectrum in the country and serves as a key reference for spectrum planners, telecom operators, and equipment manufacturers.
The updated plan also introduces provisions to meet rising demand from emerging technologies. This includes the allocation of Ka, Q and V frequency bands for satellite-based communication services, enabling high-throughput geostationary and non-geostationary satellite systems.
Support has also been extended to technologies such as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, LEO and MEO satellite services, and enhanced broadband connectivity.
Additionally, NFAP-2025 allocates more spectrum for in-flight and maritime connectivity, aiming to deliver seamless internet access in the air and at sea.
The DoT said the changes align India’s spectrum framework with global standards and prepare it for future digital innovations.
