New Delhi: Indian Railways has completed the final high-speed trial of the indigenously developed Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, marking a key step towards introducing long-distance sleeper services under the Vande Bharat brand.
The trial, conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on the Kota-Nagda section, saw the train attain a maximum speed of 180 kmph.
Officials said the trial involved comprehensive technical evaluations, including assessments of ride stability, vibration and oscillation behaviour, braking performance, emergency braking response and overall safety systems.
The train’s performance met all prescribed safety and operational benchmarks, following which the CRS cleared the trial.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared footage of the trial on social media, showcasing the train’s smooth ride through a water-glass stability test, where glasses filled with water remained steady even at top speed.
The 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed for long-haul journeys and features sleeper berths, modern suspension, automatic doors, upgraded toilets, fire detection systems, CCTV surveillance and digital passenger information systems.
