Kolkata: Nandini Chakraborty has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal.
She becomes the first woman and first Bengali woman to hold the highest bureaucratic post in the state.
A 1994-batch IAS officer, Nandini Chakraborty, takes charge as West Bengal prepares for the 2026 Assembly elections.
To date, she has been serving as the Home Secretary.
She has also served as Tourism Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Governor.
Her administrative experience spans multiple sectors, including industry, culture, and governance, and includes stints in the Ministry of Personnel as well as postings as a District Magistrate.
She replaces Manoj Pant, who retired as Chief Secretary on 31 December.
Pant, who was due to retire on June 30, had been given a six-month extension that ended on 31 December.
Manoj Pant has now been appointed Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, holding the rank of Chief Secretary.
