New Delhi: The Union Cabinet approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 12.6 lakh crore between June 2024 and December 2025, spanning transport, energy, urban development and housing sectors.
Transport accounted for a major share of the approvals. The Cabinet cleared 43 railway projects with an investment of Rs 1.52 lakh crore, 24 highway projects worth Rs 2.18 lakh crore and eight metro rail projects involving Rs 1.31 lakh crore.
To boost air and maritime connectivity, approvals were granted for four new airports costing Rs 7,339 crore, along with one major port and shipping sector reforms involving Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
The Cabinet also sanctioned two ropeway projects worth Rs 6,811 crore to improve access in hilly regions.
In the power and urban infrastructure segments, three hydro projects with a budgetary support of Rs 28,432 crore were approved, alongside 12 industrial smart cities involving Rs 28,602 crore.
The largest outlay was for Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, with Rs 5.36 lakh crore cleared to accelerate affordable housing construction nationwide.
