New Delhi, September 13 (APAC Media): Bank of Maharashtra has appointed Saurabh Kumar, a 2009-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, as Government of India Nominee Director on its Board.
The appointment, made by the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, took effect on September 10, 2026, and will remain valid until further orders. Kumar succeeds Abhijit Phukon.
Currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Kumar has more than 17 years of administrative experience across district administration, urban development, revenue and policy-related assignments.
Before joining DFS, he served as a Director in the Department of Revenue, Government of India. He holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics.
The appointment has been made under Section 9(3)(b) of the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1970, which empowers the Central Government to nominate directors to the boards of nationalised banks.
The move further strengthens government representation in the governance and oversight of the public sector lender
