New Delhi, September 13 (APAC Media): BRICS leaders have unanimously adopted the Delhi Declaration 2026, outlining a common roadmap on peace, multilateral cooperation, global governance reforms, trade, technology and a stronger voice for the Global South.
The declaration was adopted during the closing session of the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the consensus reflects the shared vision of BRICS members, while stressing that commitments must now translate into concrete outcomes.
Push for Global Governance Reforms
BRICS nations called for international disputes to be addressed through dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful means. They also backed reforms of institutions including the United Nations, World Bank, IMF and WTO, arguing that global institutions should become more representative and responsive to present-day realities.
The declaration further emphasised greater participation of developing and emerging economies in global decision-making, reinforcing the bloc’s focus on Global South priorities.
Trade, Technology and Economic Cooperation
BRICS leaders expressed concern over unilateral trade restrictions and tariff measures and reaffirmed support for a fair, rules-based trading system.
They also committed to strengthening trade, investment, energy and financial cooperation, while exploring better payment systems and connectivity.
Technology emerged as another key priority, with Modi stressing that developing countries should have a greater role in shaping standards and governance frameworks for emerging technologies.
The summit also marked 20 years of BRICS cooperation, with leaders discussing deeper collaboration as the grouping seeks to strengthen its influence in global affairs.
