Kolkata: Kolkata Police plans to strengthen security measures through CCTV cameras at Kalighat and Lake areas, especially to ensure the safety of morning walkers and pilgrims.
There will be 116 CCTV cameras installed in these two areas at a cost of Rs 29 lakh.
The Lake area will get 96 CCTV cameras at Rs 24 lakh. Another 20 cameras will be installed at Kalighat at Rs 5 lakh.
These cameras will be installed at multiple road junctions and entry points. The proposed locations include the Southern Avenue and S. R. Das Road entry, the Kabir Road and S. R. Das Road crossing, the Lake Avenue and R. Sen Road crossing, the Lake Temple Road and Lake Place crossing, the Lake Avenue and Lake Place crossing, the Kabir Road and Lake Place crossing, and the Southern Avenue and Lake Avenue entry.
Additional sites include Lake Avenue and Dr. Satyananda Roy Road, the Sarat Chatterjee Avenue and Dr. Satyananda Roy Road entry, the Southern Avenue and Lake Temple Road entry, and the Southern Avenue and Sarat Chatterjee Street entry.
The police are also approaching individuals and trading establishments to share their individual camera footage. Between Lake and Kakighat, the CCTV surveillance will also cover around 10 schools in the area.
