New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the new Prime Minister’s Office complex ‘Seva Teerth’ and the Central Secretariat buildings, Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 today, marking a major shift in India’s administrative infrastructure. He will also chair the final Union Cabinet meeting at South Block before the iconic North and South Blocks are vacated.
Designed by Herbert Baker, a contemporary of Edwin Lutyens, the historic North and South Blocks originally housed the British administration and later became the nerve centre of independent India’s government in 1947.
The Prime Minister’s Office will now function from ‘Seva Teerth’, which will also accommodate the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat, bringing them under one roof.
Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 will host key ministries, including Finance, Defence, Home, Health, Education, Agriculture, and others. Built to 4-Star GRIHA standards, the complexes integrate renewable energy, water conservation and advanced waste management systems. Equipped with digital workspaces, centralised public interface zones and enhanced security frameworks, the new facilities aim to improve coordination and efficiency within the Central Vista administrative ecosystem.
