New Delhi: India has climbed four places to 45th position in the Network Readiness Index (NRI) 2025, according to the report released on 4 February. The index assesses the network readiness of 127 economies across four pillars, Technology, People, Governance and Impact, using 53 indicators.
The report is prepared by the Portulans Institute, an independent non-profit research and educational organisation based in Washington DC.
Along with the ranking improvement, India’s overall score rose from 53.63 out of 100 in 2024 to 54.43 in 2025. The report highlights India’s strong performance across several indicators.
India ranked first globally in annual investment in telecommunication services, AI scientific publications, ICT services exports and e-commerce legislation. It secured second place in FTTH/Building internet subscriptions, domestic mobile broadband data traffic and international internet bandwidth, while ranking third in domestic market scale and income inequality.
The NRI 2025 notes that India’s network readiness exceeds expectations for its income level, placing it second among lower-middle-income countries.
