New Delhi: In order to tackle the rising issue of air pollution, the Delhi government has launched six new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Systems (CAAQMS)
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta rolled out the new CAAQMS and flagged off the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet, which aims to improve real-time monitoring and on-ground enforcement across the city. The initiative is expected to enhance the government’s ability to track air pollution levels accurately and take timely, data-driven action.
The six newly commissioned monitoring stations have been set up at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), NSUT West Campus, CWG Akshardham, SBV Delhi Cantt, and SPM Talkatora Garden. This has increased the total number of air quality monitoring systems in Delhi to 46. The move is expected to provide wider coverage and more precise assessment of pollution across different regions.
According to the officials present at the launch, the expanded network of monitoring systems will help authorities identify pollution hotspots more effectively and design targeted interventions based on scientific data. Additionally, the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet will operate in various neighbourhoods to monitor air quality, check violations, and support pollution control measures at the ground level.
The launch event was attended by cabinet minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and other senior officials.Â
