Kolkata: The West Bengal Cabinet has approved the creation of 20 per cent additional posts across various pay levels for different state services.
The main rationale behind this move was the lack of enough SDO-level officers in the state, according to CM Mamata Banerjee.
According to CM, a committee will be formed that will examine promotional avenues for officers.
WBCS (Exe) officers would be on probation for two years, followed by a three-year posting as BDOs.
After these five years, the officers will be eligible to be elevated as SDOs.
The committee will evaluate this entire career progression of the concerned officers.
According to the CM, there are only 23 districts in West Bengal and this has led to lesser number of SDOs in the state.
With more districts soon to be added in the state, this move will help create more positions for SDOs.
In addition, the move will create more opportunities for promotions of Group A officers.
While the Cabinet has approved these 20 per cent additional posts for nine state-constituted services, in principle, this will be applicable to other state-constituted services too.
There is an effort to bring parity in salary structure and number of positions amongst different state-constituted services.
A total of 46 departments have been identified, from which Group A officers receive promotions soon.
