Dispur: The Government of Assam has appointed IAS Narendra Kumar Shah as Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Dispur.Â
Shah will also continue to serve as Managing Director of the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC) on an additional charge.
A 2016-batch officer, Shah was previously serving as Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training in Assam, along with the additional responsibility of Managing Director of AIIDC. Following the new appointment, he has been relieved from his role as Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training.
Shah has previously served as the Mission Director of the Assam State Bamboo Mission, a programme aimed at promoting bamboo-based industries and strengthening the rural economy in the state.
Over the years, Shah has held several key administrative positions in different districts of Assam. From July 2022 to June 2025, he served as District Commissioner of Nagaon, where he oversaw development initiatives and administrative functions in the district. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Chirang between May 2021 and July 2022.
Earlier in his career, Shah held the positions of Additional Deputy Commissioner in Hailakandi and Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) in various administrative assignments.
With experience across district administration and state-level institutions, Shah is expected to play an important role in supporting governance and policy coordination in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
