iOS 26.5 Update Adds Encrypted iPhone-Android Messaging: Check Features, Supported iPhones In India

New Delhi, May 12(CXO Media): Apple has started rolling out iOS 26.5 for eligible iPhone users.
The update introduces end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging in beta, a feature that changes how iPhone and Android users exchange messages. The rollout comes as users increasingly shift away from traditional SMS and concerns around chat privacy continue to grow.
The biggest change in iOS 26.5 is encrypted Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging. Apple says RCS chats between supported iPhone and Android devices can now remain encrypted, preventing third parties, including service providers, from accessing messages during transmission. The feature works only when both users have compatible software and supported carrier networks.
iOS 26.5 Features: What Changes For Users
Apart from encrypted messaging, iOS 26.5 also includes a new Pride-themed Luminance wallpaper and updates to Apple Maps. The Maps app now shows a “Suggested Places” section based on recent activity and nearby trends. In some regions, clearly labelled business ads may also appear inside recommendations.
Apple has also introduced a new App Store subscription payment model that lets users pay yearly subscription plans through monthly instalments instead of one upfront payment.
iOS 26.5 Supported iPhones In India
In India, Apple says RCS messaging currently works on networks including Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi). The update is available for iPhone 11 series and newer devices, including later-generation iPhone SE models.
The release also includes more than 50 security fixes, making the update important for users concerned about privacy and device protection. The rollout arrives ahead of Apple’s WWDC 2026 event, where the company is expected to preview iOS 27 and new AI-powered Siri upgrades.
