Kolkata, May 12 (APAC Media): In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the West Bengal government under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has appointed senior IAS Manoj Kumar Agarwal as the new Chief Secretary of the state.Â
A 1990-batch officer of the West Bengal cadre, Agarwal was previously serving as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal and ex-officio Additional Chief Secretary in the Home and Hill Affairs Department. He succeeds Dushyant Nariala, who has now been posted to New Delhi as the Principal Resident Commissioner.
Over the course of his administrative career, Agarwal has held several important positions in district administration and the state secretariat. He served as the District Magistrate of North Dinajpur between 1999 and 2001 and later as District Magistrate of Bardhaman from 2001 to 2003.
He has also held senior positions, including Principal Secretary of the Food and Supplies Department and Fire and Emergency Services Department. Later, he served as Additional Chief Secretary in the Forest Department and the Disaster Management and Civil Defence Department.
Agarwal has also worked on central deputation in New Delhi, including as Personal Secretary to former Union Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi and in roles linked to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
