New Delhi, June 26 (APAC Media): Dubai-based GEMS Education (India), part of the Varkey Group and one of the world’s largest K-12 private school operators, has announced an ambitious expansion plan for India, with an initial investment of up to USD 30 million over the next three to five years.Â
As part of its strategy, the company aims to establish more than 30 schools directly operated by GEMS, expand its network to 1,000 GEMS Partner Schools, and launch a dedicated School of Education to focus on teacher training, leadership development and educational research.
According to the company, 21 GEMS-operated schools are already in the pipeline. The first five campuses are expected to begin operations from the 2026 academic session in Greater Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan.Â
An additional 16 schools are planned over the following two years across eight states, complementing GEMS’ existing schools in Gurgaon, Kochi and the Lucknow NCR region. The company has also confirmed expansion plans in cities including Ghaziabad, Pune, Coimbatore and Raipur.
The new schools will offer a range of curricula, including CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
To support its long-term expansion, GEMS India is also setting up a Category II Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) under the SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012.Â
The proposed fund will be used to acquire quality educational infrastructure and finance the development of new school campuses.
Commenting on the expansion, GEMS Education Founder and Chairman Sunny Varkey said quality education is one of the strongest drivers of social progress. He added that the group’s investment in India is guided by the belief that every child, irrespective of location or background, should have access to world-class learning opportunities.
