Jalaun (Uttar Pradesh), June 30 (APAC Media): IAS Rinkoo Singh Rahee is back in the headlines. This time, the 2023-batch officer has been transferred after a public confrontation with BJP Block Pramukh Ramraja Niranjan during an inspection in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district.
The dispute, captured on CCTV cameras, quickly spread across social media and snowballed into a major controversy.
An administrative inquiry has now been ordered, while revenue officials have also raised concerns over the officer’s conduct.
For many, this is just the latest chapter in the eventful career of Rinkoo Singh Rahee, an officer whose name has repeatedly made national headlines for reasons ranging from anti-corruption action to administrative controversies.
The Inspection That Triggered the Controversy
The incident took place on June 23, when Rahee visited Betwa Ice and Cold Storage in Bhitara for an inspection.
Officials from the Fire Department, Public Works Department (PWD), Tubewell Department and Horticulture Department were part of the inspection team.
According to a complaint filed by BJP Block Pramukh Ramraja Niranjan, the SDM asked officials to produce all records within two-and-a-half minutes.
Niranjan claimed he requested the team to inspect the documents inside the office and assured them that any shortcomings would be addressed immediately.
He alleged that the delay angered the officer. According to the complaint, Rahee tried to slap him, pushed him and behaved inappropriately in front of officials, workers and local residents.
The entire episode was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras installed at the cold storage. Around 50 labourers who were present at the site have also been cited as potential witnesses.
The matter gained momentum after Niranjan released a 4-minute 27-second CCTV video during a press conference.
Within hours, the footage had gone viral, triggering a heated debate over the conduct of both the IAS officer and the elected public representative.
IAS Rinkoo Says Complaint Was Meant to Divert Attention
IAS Rinkoo Singh Rahee has strongly denied all the allegations.
According to him, the inspection had uncovered several serious irregularities at the cold storage, and a detailed report had already been submitted to the District Magistrate.
He claimed the complaint was an attempt to divert attention from those findings and influence the administrative action that followed.
Soon after the controversy surfaced, the Jalaun District Magistrate transferred Rahee and posted him as SDM Judicial, Orai.
The administration has also ordered an inquiry into the incident.
ADM (Finance and Revenue) Rajiv Rai has been appointed as the inquiry officer. Officials have said any further action will depend on the inquiry report and examination of the CCTV footage.
Revenue Officials Also Join the Protest
The controversy took another turn when members of the Uttar Pradesh Lekhpal Association submitted a mass leave application to the District Magistrate.
The association alleged that Rahee often behaved discourteously with staff, publicly humiliated employees and frequently threatened them with suspension or dismissal.
It has demanded a fair inquiry and the restoration of a healthy working atmosphere in the tehsil administration.
Not the First Time IAS Rinkoo Singh Has Been in the Spotlight
This is far from the first time that IAS Rinkoo Singh has attracted public attention.
In March 2026, he stunned many by submitting his resignation to the President of India, the Uttar Pradesh Appointments Department and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
He alleged that he had been left without meaningful work after being shifted from a field posting.
The resignation sparked a nationwide discussion on bureaucratic functioning and administrative postings.
About a month later, he withdrew his resignation after receiving assurances from the state government.
Even before that, Rahee had found himself in the middle of another widely discussed controversy.
In July 2025, while serving as SDM of Powayan, he was seen performing uthak-baithak before protesting lawyers during a dispute over sanitation and administrative issues.
The video quickly went viral.
Within 36 hours, the Uttar Pradesh government transferred him to the Revenue Board in Lucknow.
He later returned to field administration and was posted as Joint Magistrate in Jalaun during a major IAS reshuffle in May 2026.
The Story That Shaped IAS Rinkoo Singh Journey
Long before he became known for administrative controversies, Rinkoo Singh Rahee had earned recognition for his extraordinary personal journey.
In 2008, while serving as District Social Welfare Officer in Muzaffarnagar, he reportedly took action against alleged corruption in the department.
Soon afterwards, he was allegedly attacked by a mafia group.
He sustained multiple gunshot injuries. Five bullets hit his abdomen and one struck his head.
He underwent several surgeries over nearly two years.
Despite the life-threatening attack, he never gave up on his dream of joining the civil services.
During his recovery, he continued preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
He eventually became an IAS officer, turning a story of survival into one of determination and resilience.
As the inquiry into the latest controversy continues, Rinkoo Singh Rahee once again finds himself under public scrutiny.
Whether the investigation clears him or raises more questions, one thing remains unchanged. He continues to be one of Uttar Pradesh’s most closely watched young IAS officers.
