New Delhi, June 30 (APAC Media): Uber India on Tuesday introduced two new safety-focused features aimed at improving the ride experience for users, including ‘Record My Ride’, an in-app encrypted video recording feature for drivers, and ambulance booking through a partnership with medical logistics provider Dial 4242.
The announcements were made during Uber Surakshit: Safety Never Stops, the company’s flagship safety event held in New Delhi.
Encrypted In-Cab Video Recording
The new ‘Record My Ride’ feature enables drivers to securely record encrypted in-cab video using their own smartphones during trips. The recordings remain encrypted within the Uber app and are intended to enhance safety and accountability during rides.
According to Uber, the feature is an industry-first initiative designed to offer an additional layer of security for both drivers and passengers.
Ambulance Access Through Uber
Uber has also integrated ambulance services into its platform through a partnership with Dial 4242, allowing users to request emergency medical transport directly from the Uber app.
The company said the move is intended to improve access to emergency healthcare services by offering a convenient digital booking option.
Expanding Safety Features
Uber said the latest additions build on its existing suite of safety tools, including Audio Recording, Women Rider Preference, Helmet Selfie Verification, and Seatbelt Reminders, along with other technology-driven safety measures.
Speaking at the event, Sooraj Nair, Head of Safety Operations for Uber India and South Asia, said the company aims to make safety innovations the industry standard rather than a competitive advantage.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, who attended the event as the chief guest, highlighted the importance of responsible road behaviour and said technology can play a vital role in improving road safety and supporting emergency response systems.Â
Uber also reiterated its continued partnership with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under the Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan, through which it promotes road safety awareness and responsible driving practices across the country.
