New Delhi, July 14 (APAC Media): In a major push toward environmental sustainability, the Delhi government has introduced two comprehensive green initiatives aimed at expanding the capital’s green cover and cracking down on air pollution.
‘Mission Green Delhi’ Kicks Off
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a massive citywide plantation drive, titled ‘Mission Green Delhi’, with an ambitious goal of planting 70 lakh trees and saplings across the national capital.
Organised under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’—which encourages residents to plant a tree in honour of their mothers—the initiative is being positioned as a broad public movement.
The campaign focuses on fighting air pollution, increasing urban green spaces, and improving the city’s overall air quality. Chief Minister Gupta urged Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools, and the general public to actively participate.
She noted that community involvement is vital to creating a healthier, greener environment for future generations.
AI-Powered ‘Dust Portal 2.0’ to Monitor Construction Sites
Simultaneously, the Delhi government is turning to advanced technology to address construction-related dust, which is a major contributor to the city’s air pollution challenges.
Chief Minister Gupta, alongside Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, launched ‘Dust Portal 2.0’ at the Delhi Secretariat.
This upgraded digital platform and mobile application utilise artificial intelligence (AI) to provide real-time monitoring of dust control measures at construction and demolition sites, allowing for quicker enforcement against pollution violations.
Under the new system, project operators must adhere to a strict 12-point self-audit system. Operators are required to:
Install green nets or boundary barricades around sites
Deploy anti-smog guns and PM2.5/PM10 pollution sensors
Ensure regular water sprinkling and vehicle tyre washing
Cover construction materials properly
Maintain CCTV camera monitoring and upload photographs on the portal for verification
Through this dual approach of mass community plantation and strict AI-driven tech enforcement, the Delhi government aims to systematically lower pollution levels and secure a cleaner future for the capital.
