New Delhi, July 8 (APAC Media): The Delhi Government has launched its Oxygen Park initiative to reduce pollution and expand green cover across the national capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, laid the foundation stone for 10 new Oxygen Parks.
The parks aim to improve air quality, promote biodiversity, and create healthier public spaces for residents.
The initiative will focus on developing eco-friendly green spaces using native tree species.
The government said the parks will strengthen Delhi’s green cover and support long-term environmental conservation efforts.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government plans to develop 100 Oxygen Parks across the city.
Construction has already begun on 18 parks, while the foundation stone for 10 more has now been laid. She said the initiative was inspired by the successful Oxygen Park model in Gujarat.
The project aims to expand green cover, improve air quality, and create healthier public spaces for residents.
Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government has presented the 2026-27 Budget as a “Green Budget.”
Around 22% of the total allocation has been earmarked for:
- Environmental protection
- Green development
- Pollution control
- Sustainable urban growth
She said the focus is on expanding Delhi’s green cover and addressing environmental challenges through long-term measures.
The Delhi Government said Oxygen Parks will be different from regular parks as they will feature native tree species that support the environment.
Trees to be planted include:
- Peepal
- Banyan
- Jamun
- Mango
The government said these species will help improve air quality, support biodiversity, and strengthen Delhi’s urban ecosystem.
To ensure proper maintenance of the plantations, the Delhi Government has introduced a monitoring system.
Under the initiative:
- Every tree will be tagged
- Plantation details will be monitored online
- Regular tracking will ensure proper care and maintenance
The government will also provide financial support to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and other organisations for park development and plantation activities.
The Delhi Government said the Oxygen Park initiative will help reduce pollution and improve the city’s environment.
The parks are expected to:
- Increase green cover
- Improve air quality
- Create healthier public spaces
- Support climate resilience
- Promote biodiversity
Officials said the initiative will provide cleaner surroundings and contribute to a more sustainable future for Delhi.
The Delhi Government has urged citizens to take part in plantation drives and help protect newly planted trees.
It said community participation will be key to the long-term success of the Oxygen Park initiative.
The project aims to make Delhi greener, cleaner, and more environmentally sustainable.
