Gwalior, July 30 (APAC Media): In a major push to strengthen India’s telecom manufacturing ecosystem and advance the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Government of Madhya Pradesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 30, 2026, to establish the country’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior.
The agreement will lay the foundation for Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) Phase-I, which is envisioned as a dedicated hub for telecom equipment manufacturing, innovation, and next-generation communication technologies.
Scindia and Mohan Yadav to Witness Signing Ceremony
The MoU signing ceremony will take place at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of:
- Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region.
- Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
- Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development.
Senior officials from the Centre, the Madhya Pradesh government and the telecom industry are also expected to attend.
First Dedicated Telecom Manufacturing Cluster
The proposed zone at Gwalior will be India’s first dedicated cluster focused exclusively on telecom manufacturing.
The project aims to:
- Promote indigenous telecom manufacturing.
- Attract domestic and global investments.
- Encourage research and innovation.
- Support next-generation telecom technologies.
- Strengthen India’s telecom supply chain.
The initiative is aligned with the Centre’s strategy of building self-reliance in critical technology and manufacturing sectors.
Opportunities for MSMEs and Start-ups
The Telecom Manufacturing Zone is expected to provide a significant boost to the telecom manufacturing ecosystem by creating opportunities for:
- Telecom equipment manufacturers.
- MSMEs.
- Technology companies.
- Start-ups.
- Component suppliers.
- Research and innovation institutions.
The integrated ecosystem is expected to enhance collaboration across the telecom value chain while improving India’s global manufacturing competitiveness.
Major Boost for Employment and Industrial Growth
The project is also expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.
In addition to creating jobs, the Telecom Manufacturing Zone is expected to:
- Accelerate regional industrial development.
- Strengthen resilient telecom supply chains.
- Attract technology-led investments.
The MoU will formalise cooperation between the Department of Telecommunications and the Government of Madhya Pradesh and will position Gwalior an an emerging telecom and electronics manufacturing hub.
