Noida, Sep 25 (APAC Media): Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) on Friday launched its new compact sedan, the Aeris, in India at an introductory price of ₹5.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), replacing the Tigor in its passenger vehicle portfolio.
Bookings for the new sedan have opened, with Tata Motors offering both petrol and CNG powertrains, paired with manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options.
The launch is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the compact sedan segment while creating a clearer distinction between its personal-use and fleet offerings.
According to Tata Motors, the Aeris has been developed specifically for individual and family customers and will not be offered to fleet operators.
The fleet segment will continue to be served under the Xpres-T brand.
The Aeris will compete with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze in India’s sub-four-metre sedan market.
The petrol range starts at ₹5.29 lakh for the Smart manual variant and goes up to ₹8.19 lakh for the Accomplished manual version. Petrol AMT variants are priced between ₹6.69 lakh and ₹8.74 lakh.
For CNG buyers, prices begin at ₹6.29 lakh for the Smart manual variant and rise to ₹9.19 lakh for the Accomplished manual version. CNG AMT variants are priced from ₹7.69 lakh to ₹9.74 lakh. All prices are introductory and ex-showroom Delhi.
The Aeris is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, available with a five-speed manual gearbox and AMT. The CNG range also gets an AMT option, giving buyers an automatic transmission choice in the CNG category.
Tata Motors said personal buyers account for nearly 65% of the compact sedan segment. The company noted that fleet operators typically have different requirements, particularly in terms of operating costs, durability and vehicle uptime.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, said the sedan continues to appeal to customers because of its combination of practicality and comfort.
“The sedan remains one of the most timeless expressions of the car, with a loyal set of customers who value its distinctive combination of comfort, space, driving dynamics and practicality,” Chandra said.
With the Aeris, Tata Motors is seeking to build a dedicated offering for private buyers while maintaining a separate product strategy for commercial and fleet customers.
