New Delhi, Oct 14(APAC Media): Apple has unveiled HomeView, a smart display priced at $299 (around ₹26,000 before taxes and import costs), as it looks to expand its presence in the smart home market. The device will go on sale in the US on November 13, with its India launch and pricing yet to be announced.
The launch marks Apple’s latest attempt to compete with Amazon Alexa and Google’s smart home devices, which already offer voice-controlled home management and connected services.
Apple HomeView Features And Siri AI
HomeView features a seven-inch square touchscreen and a speaker base. It can control compatible smart home devices, including lights, locks, thermostats and security cameras. The device also supports FaceTime calls, music and video playback, and digital photo display.
The main feature is Apple’s revamped Siri AI assistant, powered by Apple Intelligence and built using AI technology from Google Gemini. Apple aims to make Siri more conversational and useful for everyday tasks.
India Launch And Smart Home Market
Apple has not confirmed whether HomeView will launch in India. Its US price converts to approximately ₹26,000, but the final Indian price could be higher due to taxes and other costs.
The device could help Apple strengthen its connected-device ecosystem in India, where consumers already use smart speakers, security cameras and home automation products. However, its appeal will depend on local availability, compatibility with third-party devices and the usefulness of Siri’s features for Indian users.
Apple has also partnered with South Korea’s LG and France’s Schneider on compatible door locks and thermostats.
EU Availability Remains Uncertain
Apple said HomeView would not be available in the European Union for now as it works to address competition rules affecting Siri AI. The company said it was working with the EU to find a way to bring the products to the region.
The launch is among the first major hardware moves under John Ternus, who became Apple’s CEO on September 1, succeeding Tim Cook. HomeView also arrives as AI companies, including OpenAI, explore new consumer hardware products.
