Noida, Oct 1 (APAC Media): India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 14.7 per cent year-on-year to over Rs 2.04 lakh crore in September, remaining above the Rs 2 lakh crore mark for the third consecutive month, according to government data released on Thursday.
Gross GST revenue stood at Rs 204,050 crore in September, compared with Rs 177,279 crore collected in the same month last year.
The growth was supported by higher collections from both domestic transactions and imports. Revenue from domestic transactions, including imports of services, increased 10.1 per cent to Rs 1.38 lakh crore during the month, while GST revenue from imports jumped 25.9 per cent to Rs 65,525 crore.

“Gross GST collections rising 14.7 per cent in September despite global headwinds is very encouraging,” expert said.
He said the sharp rise in import-related GST collections would need to be examined to determine whether the increase was led by raw materials or finished goods.
“It’ll be good to analyse this in detail, specifically if it signals already stronger domestic manufacturing or there is a need for further push,” Jain said, adding that the analysis could also support the continuation and expansion of production-linked incentive schemes.
During the April-September period, gross GST collections increased 11.6 per cent to Rs 12.46 lakh crore from Rs 11.17 lakh crore in the corresponding period of 2025-26.
Net GST collections during the first six months of the current financial year rose 10.4 per cent to Rs 10.66 lakh crore.
Among states, Maharashtra recorded GST revenue of Rs 29,986 crore in September, registering a 15 per cent year-on-year increase. Karnataka collections rose 16 per cent to Rs 13,884 crore, while Gujarat recorded a 17 per cent increase to Rs 12,222 crore.
Uttar Pradesh and Telangana both registered an 18 per cent year-on-year increase in GST collections during the month.
The sustained rise in GST receipts comes amid continued efforts to improve tax compliance and formalisation of economic activity, while providing a key indicator of trends in consumption and business transactions.
