India and Japan discuss cooperation on Cyber Security
India and Japan held discussions on bilateral cooperation in the fields of cyber security besides information and communication technology, including 5G. The discussions were hosted virtually by New Delhi during the Fourth India-Japan Cyber Dialogue.
The external affairs ministry said that the proposed cyber-security agreement will promote cooperation in capacity building, research and development, and security and resilience in critical information infrastructure, 5G, internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI).
Both sides also agreed to hold the next India-Japan Cyber Dialogue in 2023 as per mutual convenience. Japan’s interest in India is increasing due to a variety of reasons including India’s large and growing market and its resources, especially the human resources.
The ministry said, “Recognising the increasing role being played by digital technologies, the two ministers highlighted the need for robust and resilient digital and cyber systems and in this context, welcomed the finalisation of the text of the cyber-security agreement.”
The ministers emphasised that a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region must be premised on diversified and resilient supply chains; and in this context, welcomed the Supply Chain Resilience Initiative between India, Japan, Australia and other like-minded countries.
