HFCL Limited announced that it has entered into an agreement with Qualcomm Technologies Inc., for HFCL’s design and development of 5G Outdoor Small Cell products. In line with its 5G strategy, HFCL’s investment in 5G Outdoor Small Cell products will enable faster network rollout, improved 5G user experience, and more efficient spectrum utilization.
Because of the introduction of higher spectrum bands, which necessitate denser network deployments to support higher traffic volumes, small cells will play a critical role in 5G networks. Small cell deployments help to improve coverage in areas where existing macrocells have coverage gaps or blackspots, or where coverage is completely lacking. Furthermore, small cells increase capacity by offloading traffic from macro cells in densely populated areas.
HFCL’s 5G Outdoor Small Cell is an All-in-one Small Cell and supports both 5G Non Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) mode. It supports flexible deployment options and can be deployed on street poles, walls of building and on rooftops to cover traffic hotspots, fill network coverage holes and also to improve the coverage at public venues like railway-station, stadiums and airports.
To achieve a compact form factor, power-efficient operation, spatial multiplexing, and multigigabit throughputs for a ubiquitous 5G experience, HFCL’s 5G Outdoor Small Cell leverage some of the innovative features of the Qualcomm FSM200xx 5G RAN Platform for Small Cells.
According to Fortune Business Insights, the global 5G small cell market will grow at a CAGR of 54.4 percent from USD 740 million in 2020 to USD 17.9 billion by 2028.
