PANCHKULA: Panchkula deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sumer Pratap Singh on Friday said that Police Public Coordination meets are important as it helps fight criminals and evils of the society. The DCP said that the main objective of such coordination meets at the district level is to make people aware of social evils.
DCP Sumer Pratap Singh said this on Friday while holding a district-level police public coordination meeting held at Mini Secretariat, Sector 1 Auditorium. People from the district level (rural and urban areas) and social workers participated in the meeting. Problems related to the area were discussed in the meeting.
The DCP further informed that for prevention of drug addiction, the police have issued a WhatsApp number, 708-708-1100, on which the public can send drug related information to the cops. “Without cooperation from the common man, it will be difficult to fight crime,” the top cop said.
DCP Singh said, “The main objective of the event was to strengthen police public relations. Also, the public was motivated to report to the police if they come across any criminal activity or a suspected person living in their locality. We assured that the informer’s identity will be kept confidential.” Along with this, the deputy commissioner of police said that this meeting is organized every month at the district level, through which information is also received about the problems of the people and the problems discussed in the previous meeting are reviewed. The DCP added, “If any person come to your house from outside as a tenant or for a job, whether in a rural or an urban area, police verification must be done because some anti-social elements come for brief time and run away after committing crimes.”
Along with this, the DCP said that Public Coordination Committee will now be formed at the district level, police station and the police-post level too.
