Gurugram: The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, Government of India, collaborated with REC Limited and the Expert Group on Smart Metering (EGSM) to host a workshop on Cyber Security for Distribution Utilities in the Power Sector.
The event brought together leading experts, industry figures, and cybersecurity enthusiasts to delve into crucial aspects of cybersecurity.
Participants engaged in lively discussions covering topics such as Cybersecurity Preparedness, Threat Landscape and Challenges in Incidence Response, Practice Measures for identified Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) in the Distribution Sector, Cyber Security requirements for Cloud Security, and Cyber Security Testing of Firewall and Routers.
A focal point of the workshop was the 2021 Cyber Security Guidelines issued by the CEA for the Power Sector. These guidelines mandate compliance from all entities involved, including Transmission Utilities, Transmission Licensees, Load Despatch Centres, Generation Utilities, Distribution Utilities, Generation Aggregators, Regional Power Committees, and Regulatory Commissions.
The primary objectives are to compromise the Power Supply System or render grid operations insecure, potentially leading to maloperations, equipment damage, or cascading grid brownouts/blackouts, the event highlighted.
