Bengaluru: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited (KMBL) recently unveiled the Kotak School of Sustainability, India’s first fully integrated school of sustainability at IIT Kanpur.
Recognising the threat posed by global warming and the urgency to deliberate on sustainable solutions, IIT Kanpur and Kotak Mahindra Bank are taking a pioneering step to address climate-driven sustainability challenges through the establishment of the Kotak School of Sustainability.
Funded by KMBL’s CSR program, the school aims to amalgamate environmental science, clean technology, and socio-economic facets of sustainability. It will house dedicated centers of excellence focusing on clean energy, environment, ecology, circular economy, climate finance, sustainable societies, and policy.
The school will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs, fostering an environment for collaborative research across multiple sustainability dimensions. The Kotak School of Sustainability will be located in a platinum-rated green building at IITK’s main campus, employing net-zero practices on energy, water, and waste.
The launch event witnessed the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, as the chief guest. Pradhan said, “The school will not only be about technology and economics, but will cover the A to Z of sustainability. This will be instrumental in helping India meet the ambitious target of net zero by 2070.”
