Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Champai Soren successfully won a vote of confidence on the first day of the two-day assembly session. The trust vote saw support from 47 MLAs, with 29 in opposition, solidifying the government’s position.
State minister Alamgir Alam had asserted unity among their MLAs, claiming support from 48 to 50 legislators in the 81-member assembly a day before the vote.
Contrary to a video released by the coalition last week, which asserted support from 43 legislators, the alliance of JMM, Congress, and RJD ultimately had the backing of 47 MLAs, further supplemented by external support from a CPIML(L) legislator.
Champai Soren, leader of the JMM legislature party, assumed the role of Chief Minister on February 2 after his predecessor, Hemant Soren, faced arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
Despite Hemant Soren’s legal challenges, the special PMLA court permitted Champai Soren to participate in the trust vote, securing the government’s stability in the region.
