New Delhi: Alphabet Inc.’s Google recently disclosed its decision to shut its payments application, Google Pay, in the United States. The tech giant intends to transition all users to its Google Wallet platform.
Effective June 4, 2024, the standalone Google Pay app in the US will cease to be operational, as confirmed in a blog post by the company. However, users will still be able to access essential features such as in-store payments and payment method management directly through Google Wallet, which boasts five times more usage compared to Google Pay in the US.
Importantly, Google clarified that its payment services in other nations, notably India, will remain unaffected by this change. The company emphasised its commitment to maintaining services tailored to the unique requirements of different regions.
Following the closure, US users can still manage funds and initiate bank transfers via the Google Pay website. Additionally, Google recommended downloading the latest version of the Google Wallet app from Google Play for Android users, while card management can be carried out on the Google Pay website.
