New Delhi: The ISC Chemistry exam, Paper 1 (Theory), slated for February 26, faced an abrupt postponement just hours before its scheduled commencement. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) attributed the delay to “unforeseen circumstances.” In response, the exam has been rescheduled for March 21 at 2:00 PM.
Sangeeta Bhatia, Deputy Secretary of the council, conveyed the decision in a notification to all principals, stating, “The ISC Chemistry Paper 1 (Theory) examination… has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.” She further elaborated that a new set of question papers would be dispatched to convenors for the rescheduled exam.
Although Bhatia declined to provide additional details to the press, speculations arose regarding the integrity of the question papers, with some suggesting a potential leak. However, the council has not officially confirmed any such breach.
The sudden cancellation inconvenienced thousands of students and parents, with many learners learning of the postponement only upon reaching the examination centres. Schools promptly disseminated notifications to inform families, urging students to refrain from attending the exam on the original date.
The ISC examination, which commenced on February 12 and spans until April 3, continues unaffected apart from this isolated incident.
