New Delhi: Senior IRS officer Sanjay Kumar has been appointed as a Member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), according to a directive issued recently. With this appointment, Kumar, who belongs to the 1988 batch of the IRS (Income Tax) cadre, will hold the designation of Member (Audit and Judicial) within the CBDT.
The CBDT, which oversees the formulation and regulation of policies within the Income Tax Department, operates with a structure comprising six members, led by a chairperson. Each member enjoys the rank and pay equivalent to that of a special secretary. The appointment of Kumar brings the CBDT to its full complement of members.
Kumar’s role within the CBDT will involve contributing to the management and oversight of various tax-related matters, including the collection of personal income tax and corporate tax.
